Gordon Brown comes to Shooters Hill

Gordon Brown made Shooters Hill one of his first stops on his way to becoming Prime Minister.

 Chancellor Gordon Brown Visits the Shooters Hill Post 16 Campus 

 He came to the sixth form campus on Red Lion Lane to see the excellent work the college is doing.  Clive Introduced Gordon to Shooters Hill councillors Denise Hyland, John Kelly and Danny Thorpe who talked to him about the improving results, fast-rising student numbers and highlighted the comments of Ofsted that described the school's "great sense of community".

   Gordon Heard from Clive and council leader Chris Roberts about the £800 million of investment taking place across Greenwich including £300 million in building schools for the future, £200 million Decent Homes scheme improving every council home by 2010 and millions more on children's centres in every community providing support to families with young people.  Clive says, "This investment is all down to the government".

   After a tour of the campus and a discussion involving local people Gordon explained that he wants to take politics back into the community and listen to what people have to say. He also set out his vision for the National Health Service. Gordon said that the new health centres like the one just opening in Garland Road will allow people to be treated nearer to home and remove the need ti go to hospital for many forms of treatment. He said, "Our health service must meet the needs of people in a way that suits their needs and is convenient."

Clive adds, "This is an historic  time for our country and the Labour Party, I am proud Gordon chose to make us part of it."
