Breaking news on Tory housing policy

If you are a council tenant your future is happening now in Tory controlled constituencies like Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster.  Click on this link to see council tenants in Hammersmith and Fulham who are afraid for the future of their homes.

Hammersmith and Fulham Leader Stephen Greenhalgh was forced to admit in a public meeting that the council has held discussions with developers about demolishing their homes to make way for private housing developments so the current tenants wont be coming back.

The Tories went as far as the French Riviera to hold discussions about these luxury developments.  The Tories have made no secret of their desire to get rid of social housing in their boroughs. 

Tory Mayor Boris Johnson has also abolished the commitment to build 50 percent affordable housing in all housing developments paving the way for Tory boroughs like Hammersmith and Fulham to get away with plans like this.

The Tories are planning to end remove all secure tenancies from existing tenants if they win the next general election.   

In Tory controlled Hammersmith and Fulham, tenants are angry that the council has had secret meetings with people who want to build luxury developments on the land on which they are currently living.  There will be NO place for them to return.  You can see a film of this meeting with the tenants for yourself.  In the video the tenants let the leader of the council know how they feel about the way they have been treated.

The leader of Hammersmith is one of the leading policy advisors for the Tories housing issues and has advocated among many things; 

• Ending secure tenancies for all council and housing association tenants
• Raising all rents to market levels
• Ending the responsibility for councils to provide housing to ordinary families.
• Ending any requirement to provide affordable homes

If you are a tenant and the Tories win the next election you can see your future happening now under the Tories in places like Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster. 

Whether we are a tenant or home owner we all know someone who needs affordable rented accommodation.  Many of us will have children who would like the opportunity to set up their own home and become independent.
