Eltham's Clive Efford has welcomed a proposal to re-open the Eltham and Mottingham college hospital at Passey Place in Eltham town centre.

The local Primary Care Trust will be consulting the public shortly about their plans.  The new facility would provide a 24 hour walk in service with up to 40 intermediate beds and would act as a base for a four-partner GP practice.  There would be clincal space for a range of treatments currently provided on an outpatient basis in our local hospitals.

The intermediate beds would be run y nurses with input from the patients own GP.  A range of tests will also be provided including ECG's and ultrasound.

Many people choose to go to an A&E rather than wait for a GP appointment, "People are making a clear statement that they want walk in GP services that suit their needs.  This new treatment centre will meet that, whilst relieving the burden on our A&E's giving them more time to deal with the most seriously ill patients." explained Clive.

Clive led the campaign to try and stop the Tories closing the Brook hospital in 1994.  Clive says "The difference is Labour opens hospitals and the Tories closed them."

"This will bring services closer to the local community and will be extreemely popular with people in Eltham."
