Clive's latest walkabout in Middle park took place on February 19 2007, here are the notes which he took.
1. Front Gardens
There was a purge on front gardens by Neighbourhood Services, who are now going through a major reorganisation. Under the reorganisation there will be a dedicated team to enforce environment issues including gardens.
2. Dog Fouling
There is a major problem on the estate. This has come up as a concern on other estates. Can the council use publicity in local press and Greenwich Time to encourage dog owners to act more responsibly - leaflets at post offices etc?
3. Cleansweep
Residents have been informed that road sweepers are not picking up dog mess.
Sit-on machine not seen on the estate for six months. Road sweeper removed from estate from end of December.
Drains blocked – King John Walk to Court Road
Rubbish being dumped – outside church and behind shops
4. Toilet in Queenscroft Park
Residents would like the toilets to be repaired and reopened. They do not think it is acceptable for the park to have no toilets.
5. Pan 180-214 Eltham Palace Road
22 houses with only 8 parking spaces. Residents are requesting extra parking spaces.
6. St Saviour’s Middle Park Avenue
Vehicles parking on pavement outside church residents have requested bollards to stop parking
7. Newmarket Green
The owner of the Costcutter is offering to put flower containers on the top of the concrete bollards. They are used as seats and encourage youths to congregate near shops.
Move post office pillar box to outside Costcutter – will be covered by CCTV from Costcutter – it was recently vandalised and box was broken open (Clive to write to Post Office)
8. Middle Park Avenue
Drains in Middle Park Avenue need clearing
Road signs need painting - white background weathered away
Pavement outside 200-204 badly broken
Bollards missing outside The Vista field entrance corner of The Vista. The whole area on this corner is in a poor state following building work and needs repairs.
What is being done to reinstate the area used as a road in Vista Park? This will need seeding. Is it being done as part of the building contract? Railing removed at entrance to former community hall.
9. Joan Crescent
Damage and flooding being caused by debris from Network Rail’s contractors. Drains blocked by ballast from Capel Fencing of Tonbridge working on fence to railway. (Clive to write to Network Rail)
Grass verge beside 11 Joan Crescent very badly damaged. Needs urgent attention and shin rails reinstated – may need a metal bollard.
10. Gregory Crescent
Street lamp covers need cleaning – corner of Joan Crescent and Gregory Crescent. They are badly discoloured, blocking the light.
- Front fence hanging down 95 Gregory Crescent
- Gate to school broken – pathway needs sweeping
- Graffiti on rear fence to school needs to be removed.
Garden 71 fence broken down
- number 50 needs clearing of litter
- Drains need clearing: outside 61 and 56. By 45 opposite Ferndown and corner of Middle Park Avenue outside number 1
- graffiti on fence beside 31
11. Ferndown
- Shin rails missing corner of Ferndown by 36
- Rubbish behind NTL box in front of number 1
12. Glasbrook
Street sign needs cleaning of graffiti
Drain front of 16 needs clearing
13. The Vista
Grass verge in front of 27-35 damaged by cars driving over it. Also outside 25; also numbers 11, 5 and 12.
- Shin rails missing near 46. Most of the grass verges along the road have been damaged by people driving over them. Can a letter be sent to warn people that action will be taken if this continues?
- Path needs clearing in front of Eltham Palace Road
14. Eltham Palace Road
Drain on path outside gate of number 180 – no drain cover and is blocked
- Road surface Eltham Palace Road breaking up and will need resurfacing in the near future.
15. Cuff Crescent
Grass verge in front of 15-33 damaged by cars.
There are widespread complaints from residents about the deterioration in the standard of cleaning. The grass is in need of the first cut. Some front gardens need to be cleared of rubbish and debris. Dog fouling is also the cause of a lot of complaints. We must resolve the problem of removing it from the pavement. All of the estates are in need of a tough enforcement campaign coupled with some publicity.
